Please, stop standing around on MLK Day Singing, "We Shall Overcome"

A blunt message from the President/Publisher
Terry Artis
I implore you, Black people, don't sing that silly ass song another day.
We shall overcome
We shall overcome
We shall overcome some day
Oh, deep in my heart
I do believe
We shall overcome some day
For me, this is one of the most degrading minstrel-like behaviors that I witness year after year. Please allow me to provide you with a verse with word substitutions that better depict what is actually being sang:
I am still a slave
I am still a slave
I am still a slave today
Oh, deep in my heart
I do believe
I am still a slave today
And to White people who join hands with these downtrodden Negroes at those "placate the Negroes" functions, where you come to show your "support" for their suffering, I'd like suggest the following lyrics:
We still own your ass
We still own your ass
We still own your ass today
Oh, deep in our hearts
We do believe
We still own your ass today
If the Negro is ever to be free, like the Black man, these kinds of oppressive rituals must be removed from his consciousness with all deliberate speed.
