Terry Artis and Kris Brown

Metrotix
St. Louis, MO - Drummer, Terry Artis and Pianist, Kris Brown, will celebrate 30 years of performing jazz music together when they take the stage at the upcoming "World Percussion Theatre" production at the Sheldon Concert Hall, Tuesday, July 20 at 7:00pm. The smooth jazz band, Black Shirt, which features Artis, Brown and Bassist, Eric Hutchinson, will also be marking their 15 year reunion on that same evening.
Terry and Kris began performing together in the Normandy High School "Norsemen" Jazz Band in the summer of 1980. During their high school years, both performers received numerous National Association of Jazz Educators (NAJE) awards for outstanding musicianship. The duo continued playing together as they attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1982.
In 1995, Kris and Terry joined forces with New Orleans Bassist, Eric Hutchinson, forming "Black Shirt." The trio began garnering noted successes when they won a talent showcase at a downtown nightclub, which provided them the opportunity to be the opening act for Chico DeBarge in the Missouri Black Expo. Shortly after that, Black Shirt released their first CD, "In the Moment."
In 2004, the trio entered and won the Smooth Jazz 106.5/Panera Jazz Competition, which provided the opportunity for the ensemble to open the 2004 St. Louis Jazz Festival, starring David Sanborn and Aaron Neville. That same year, Black Shirt was featured in the St. Louis Art Fair, served as opening act for smooth jazz guitarist, Norman Brown, and released their second CD, "Once You Go... Black Shirt."
Black Shirt will share the stage with The St. Louis Caledonian Scottish Pipe and Drum Corps, the Spirit of Angela/Kumasi Nankama Aswad Kambeng - West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, Herman & Ron Semidey (Masters of Latin Percussion) and the amazing Show-Me Sound F.O.C.U.S. (For Our Children's Unfettered Success) DRUMLINE.
