Sister Harriet Patton, President Meacham Park Neighborhood Improvement Association (MPNIA)

In our STRUGGLE for JUSTICE and INCLUSION, the Meacham Park and Kirkwood communities are being lead by the 23rd Psalm of David, "The Lord is my Shepherd and I shall not want..." For we are a Prayerful People.

The Meacham Park Neighborhood Improvement Association, in collaboration with the Saint Louis County Urban League, is seeking youth applicants for Missouri Summer Jobs as a part of the Saint Louis County Workforce Investment Act Youth Program. The program is a targeted program for Saint Louis County residents only who are in school youth, 14 through 18 years of age who meet low income guidelines. Parent/Guardians for the last six months must accompany the young people as they fill out their application forms.

A second program administered by a not-for-profit agency in the City of Saint Louis, is targeted for young adults 19 through 24 years of age who are not in school. The Summer Jobs Program will terminate on September 30, 2010. However, the young adult program is planned to continue throughout the year.

Harriet Patton, president of the Meacham Park Neighborhood Improvement Association, stated, "It is extremely important that persons complete applications as soon as possible for this non-partisan program so that they can be enrolled and benefit from the jobs that will pay $8.50 an hour. primarily at not for profit businesses and agencies in the Kirkwood community." Ms. Patton also stated: "We will be seeking to identify job sites for the young workers at local churches, community agencies, libraries, and not-for-profit businesses."

Additional information for both programs about general requirements and what papers must be brought to Registration Sessions, and the date, time, and place of the Registration Sessions may be obtained by contacting Lisa Smith at the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (314-679-3500) or Sharmaine Carson, Meacham Park Neighborhood Improvement Association Field Recruiter (314-965-1185).

Ms. Patton added, "We are extremely grateful that the Urban League has made it possible for the youth of our community to participate in this valuable program."
